The Legacy

Together with the photographer Anne Schönharting, we have drafted and designed the book “Das Erbe” (The Legacy), which proposes an associative account of colonial history. At the origin of this theme is Anne Schönharting’s great-grandfather Willy Klare, who from 1907 to 1914 was an overseer of a plantation in what is today Equatorial Guinea. His personal collection, containing many objects and hundreds of photos, is what Anne Schönharting sees as her heritage, which she has been studying in depth for years, working on it through photographic means. The book won a Golden Nail at ADC Germany as well as the German Photo Book Award.

Parts of the book rely on large blowups from historical photographs.
Hundreds of old photos, letters, post cards and documents had to be sifted through.
